Construction Alert
SR 169 – AGUA FRIA RIVER BRIDGE TRAFFIC CONTROL
Bridge work is occurring on SR 169 at the Agua Fria River just east of SR 69. Traffic control has been set up and will remain in place through Summer 2009. Please be aware of the following safety restrictions:
- Due to safety concerns regarding the nature of the roadway improvements, there is currently no pedestrian access along SR 169 through the work zone. Pedestrians are encouraged to find alternate routes or alternate methods of getting through the work zone.
- Due to lane shifts and large equipment in the work zone, visibility at the River Road and SR 169 intersection is limited. Residents who access SR 169 from River Road are encouraged to use an alternate access point for entering SR 169.
- Lanes across the Agua Fria River Bridge have been narrowed to 10.5 feet, with a 1 foot shoulder. This traffic control configuration restricts load widths to 10 feet.
Please drive slowly and safely through the work zone.
The Arizona Department of Transportation will remove
the existing bridge over the Agua Fria River on State
Route 169 and replace it with a new bridge. Work will
begin in summer 2008 on the $4.2 million project,
which is scheduled for completion in fall 2009.
Half of
the new bridge will be built first and traffic will be
transferred to the new bridge. Then the old bridge will
be demolished and the other half of the new bridge will
be constructed.
