FMS Construction |
Construction
of Freeway Management System (FMS) for this segment
of Loop 101. Using sensors, freeway cameras and
the latest technology, the Valley’s Intelligent
Transportation Systems keep traffic flowing by providing
incident management personnel with information about
real-time traffic conditions.

HOV Construction |
Construction
of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes designed to
aide in relieving traffic congestion during morning
and evening rush hours, encourage carpools and public
transportation, allow for express bus service, shorten
travel time, and reduce the overall number of vehicles
on the road.

| 64th
St. Traffic Interchange |
64th
Street is planned to be a six-lane arterial and
will be elevated approximately 30 feet above the
existing ground over Loop 101. The interchange will
provide freeway access ramps (entry/exit) for both
directions of Loop 101.
Also included in the project are new auxiliary lanes
(merging lanes) on Loop 101 to connect the 64th
Street traffic interchange with the 56th Street
and Scottsdale Road traffic interchange ramps. This
will help to improve the merging ability for vehicles
entering and exiting the freeway.

General Purpose Lanes Study |
Design
Concept Report/Environmental Study to add one general
purpose lane in each direction on the Loop 101 (Pima
Freeway) between Princess Drive and Loop 202 (Red
Mountain Freeway). Study initiated in February 2008
with anticipated completion fall 2009.

The timeline
represents the required steps in the development of a roadway
or roadway improvement. In addition to establishing a funding
source, there is a series of required planning and environmental
studies before a roadway is constructed.
